Located in Hullabaloo Hall, the Dormcubator features "Fireside Chats" by startup founders ranging from students to successful serial entrepreneurs. Award-winning faculty with our academic partners, including the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship (CNVE), Dwight Look College of Engineering & Computer Science; College of Architecture and College of Liberal Arts, also frequently conduct informal chats at our Dormcubator.
Our two-semester, multidisciplinary program requires freshmen to enroll in the one-hour MGMT 289: Introduction to Entrepreneurship Part 1 & Part 2, which meets once-weekly at Startup Aggieland in the Think Tank. Our fall class explores the local and regional entrepreneurship ecosystem and participates in free pitch competitions on a local, regional and national level. The first semester program requires participation in either 3-Day Startup, Ideas Challenge or Startup 101-- all powered by CNVE. Alternative options include Food+City Challenge Prize; Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization's National Elevator Pitch Competition; AggiesInvent; and/or a semester-long launch at Startup Aggieland.
During our second semester, freshmen will develop their $10 business ideas or other ventures into full-fledged startups. Students retain 100% of equity and their intellectual property. Freshmen learn how to prepare and file a provisional patent. They also attend a technology commercialization lecture by the Assistant Vice Chancellor with Texas A&M Technology Transfer. The spring class also visits world-class business accelerators and local maker spaces during a startup crawl in Historic Downtown Bryan and in the Texas A&M BioCorridor. Freshmen get to high-level executives from such companies as Rackspace, Silicon Valley Bank, RetailMeNot, Google, Facebook, etc.
